STADA

STADA is a leading German manufacturer in the pharmaceutical industry.

STADA

STADA is a leading German pharmaceutical manufacturer with more than 125 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
The Turda investment of over €48 million aims to build a production and packaging facility.

1. Project objective

The project aimed to construct the chilled water, heated water and compressed air installations necessary for the industrial process of manufacturing medicines. Another important component was the realization of the air-conditioning installation in the laboratories and offices of the medicine factory.

2. Challenges and solutions implemented

The project involved a series of technical challenges for which solutions adapted to the specific industrial activity were implemented. The clean technological compressed air distribution plant was made of stainless steel, using the technology of crimping the fittings on the pipes. For the compressed air generation plant, inert gas (Argon) welding was used, adapted to work with stainless steel installations.

As for the chilled water system, a complete cooling and distribution solution was implemented, including chillers, buffer vessels, pumps, dispensers, as well as an extensive network of steel piping equipped with pumps, filters, 3-way valves and flow meters, all integrated in an automated control system.

For water heating, the project involved the installation of automated boilers, supplemented by buffer tanks, pumps and dispensers, connected to a hot water network for the air handling units, built according to the same principles of automation and control.

Atmosphere control in laboratories and offices was achieved through a network of VRFs and external cooling units, all integrated in an automated system, thus ensuring an optimal climate for the activities carried out in these spaces.

3. Benefits for STADA

ICCO Instal has implemented a modern technology of automatic quality control of compressed air, used in the process of packaging of medicines, which eliminated the possibility of microbial concentrators in the compressed air flow path.

Using 3-way pumps and valves, with the possibility of integration into a BMS system, we have provided the customer with an installation that allows easy control of the chilled water and hot water distribution system serving the multitude of air handling units (AHUs).

An automated ambient temperature control system has been implemented in the factory's laboratories, where the technological process takes place at controlled low temperatures.

4. ICCO Instal expertise in this project

ICCO Instal's experience in projects involving industrial automation, controlled environments/clean rooms, technological installations of technical fluids and gases contributed to the optimal management of this project.

The use of modern technologies, adapted to the hygienic operating requirements, has resulted in the successful execution of a typology of installations dedicated to the pharmaceutical industry.

ICCO Install - Complete solutions for STADA

In order to ensure the technological infrastructure necessary for the production process, ICCO Instal has implemented technical solutions tailored to the requirements of the beneficiary and the specifics of its activity.

  • Compressed air generation and distribution plant:
  • Compressed air generation station for clean compressed air and compressed air drive equipment with a capacity of 30 Nm³/min
  • Fresh compressed air distribution system
  • Compressed air distribution plant compressed air drive equipment
  • Installation for cooling water and distribution of cooled water:
  • The generating station cools the water and distributes it at a temperature of 5°C. The water returns from the distribution plant at a temperature of 10°C and is then cooled again. The chilled water generation plant consists of chillers, heat exchangers, buffer tanks, water circulating pumps, 3-way valves, isolation valves and distributors. The cooled water is distributed as process water and as water for the operation of air handling units. The plant is integrated in an automatic control system.
  • Water heating and hot water distribution installation:
  • The central heating plant is based on 2 boilers of 1100 kW each, buffer vessels, water circulation pumps, 3-way valves, isolation valves and distributors. Hot water is distributed to the air handling units. The plant is integrated in an automatic control system.
  • Ambient control installation allows, by means of VRF units, to control the air temperature in rooms at compartment level, both for laboratories and offices. The air temperature control range is -20°C to 46°C.
